Big Sur International Marathon takes place on April 25, 2027 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, on Highway 1 between Big Sur and Carmel. The marathon (26.2 miles) starts at 6:45 a.m. with about 7,200 feet of climbing, and the 21-miler, 11-miler and 12K (7.5 miles) share that start time, while the Big Sur 5K goes at 7:35. The route passes redwoods, coastal mountains and ocean views, and the course is USATF certified and an official Boston qualifier.

With that much climbing, this is not the day to chase a flat-course personal best, so train hills and run the first half conservatively. You can also join the Semper Fi & America's Fund team, which comes with guaranteed entry, fundraising incentives and other benefits. The race is widely counted among the best marathons in the country.
