Bridge-Buster 5K Run

Bridge-Buster 5K Run is an annual race in Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County, Florida, on January 9, 2027. The 5K run and the 5K walk both start at 7:30 a.m. from the River Walk Center, and the course is an out-and-back over the South Bridge before returning to the same point.

The name tells you what to expect: a bridge crossing is the defining feature, and on an out-and-back you climb it twice. That changes how you should pace 3.1 miles. Run the rise at an even effort rather than an even pace, let the descent come back to you, and keep something in reserve for the second crossing. Adding one hilly run or a few short hill repeats each week in the month beforehand is more useful preparation here than extra flat mileage.
