About

Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Oklahoma City is an endurance event held at Wheeler Park in Oklahoma City on October 25, 2026, celebrating life, memory and time spent outdoors. The Kids Dash goes at 7:55 a.m., and the half marathon (13.1 miles), the quarter marathon (6.55 miles), the 5K and the one-mile all start at 8 a.m. Runners pass through scenic parkland with green spaces and lakes. A Dia de los Muertos costume contest rewards creativity, age-group awards and finisher medals are part of the package, and the post-race festivities bring live music, refreshments and the awards presentation.

Park courses tend to be flat and sheltered, which suits a runner attempting a first half marathon or a controlled personal-best effort. The quarter marathon at 6.55 miles is an underrated distance, long enough to need pacing and short enough to race off a modest base. For the half, 12 weeks with a weekly long run is the shape of a solid plan.
