Grandview 13.1 & 5k

Grandview 13.1 & 5k is a challenging road event in Columbus, Indiana on December 12, 2026, with both the half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5K starting at 9:00 a.m. Everything is run on paved county roads, starting and finishing at the Columbus Youth Camp. The half marathon loops past Wolf Creek and Grandview Lake and involves real climbing and descending, with rolling hills that open out into wide views and add plenty of difficulty. The shorter option covers similar terrain, so both distances ask something of your legs.

On a course like this, chasing a flat-course personal best is the wrong plan. Run the half by effort, ease off on the climbs and stay relaxed on the descents rather than fighting them, and expect a finish time a few minutes slower than you'd manage on flat roads. Preparation should include hills: over a twelve to sixteen week build, put one hilly long run in every week or two and add a weekly session of sustained uphill running.
