About

New Year's One Day is a timed ultra held in San Jose, California, on December 31, 2026. Every format starts at 9:00 a.m.: a 100 Mile race, a 24 hour, a 12 hour and a 6 hour, each of which you can enter solo or as a team. The course is a certified 1-mile loop around Cottonwood Lake in Hellyer Park (USATF CA23033TEB), with the water in view for the whole effort. Solo 24 hour, 100 Mile and solo 12 hour entrants receive a fleece hoodie, while the solo 6 hour and the team categories receive a shirt.

Racing a short loop is a different skill from racing a point-to-point course. You get an honest split every mile, which makes it easy to hold an even effort and to catch a fade early, and nothing about the route ever surprises you. If you are stepping up to your first 100-miler or your first 24 hour, build toward it with back-to-back long runs and rehearse your nutrition at the pace you plan to hold, because eating and drinking on schedule decides more of these races than fitness does.
