OWLS Fort Macon 5K Trail Run

OWLS Fort Macon 5K Trail Run is held in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, on Saturday, April 17, 2027, with the start at 9:00 a.m. The single format is a 5K (3.1 miles) run cross-country style over mixed surfaces, with moderate elevation change, boardwalk sections, and open views over Beaufort Inlet, Bogue Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Every participant gets a t-shirt.

Because the footing changes between soft ground and boardwalk, this is not a personal-best 5K course; treat it as an effort race rather than a time trial and run by feel rather than watching your pace. A few short runs on grass or sand beforehand will prepare your ankles for the surface. The race is organized by the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter, a nonprofit that rehabilitates and releases injured, sick and orphaned wild animals, and entry fees fund its care and education work.
