About
Pioneer Road Run takes place in Phoenix, Oregon, in Jackson County, on November 14, 2026. Two formats are offered: a 9-miler starting at 9:00 a.m. and a 5K (3.1 miles) at 9:30 a.m. The community event gives awards to the top runners in each age group, and it supports the Phoenix High School cross-country team.
The 9-mile distance is the interesting one. It is longer than a 10K and shorter than a half marathon, so it works well as a stepping stone if you are building toward 13.1 miles, or as a hard long run inside a marathon block. Pace it slightly slower than 10K effort and aim for a strong last three miles. The 5K is the option for newer runners, families, or anyone who wants a short, quick effort. For the 9-miler, eight to ten weeks with a weekly long run building to 8 or 9 miles is plenty; for the 5K, six weeks of three runs per week does the job. Both are road events, so road shoes are the right call.
