The Swissvale Mile: Race and Family & Dog Walk

The Swissvale Mile: Race and Family & Dog Walk is held in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, on October 24, 2026. The timed 1-mile race starts at 9:00 a.m. and the family and dog walk, over the same mile, follows at 9:30 a.m. The event is run entirely by volunteers and funded through registrations, sponsorships and donations.

A mile makes an unusually good community race, because the fast runners and the walkers are separated by minutes rather than hours and everyone finishes in the same window. If you are racing it, warm up thoroughly and go out at an effort you can just barely sustain, since there is no room to build into a mile. Proceeds have supported local causes including the Woodland Hills Chromebook Fund and the Swissvale Orioles baseball and softball association, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Swissvale, the Carnegie library and the Swissvale senior center.
