Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash

Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash is a Thanksgiving morning tradition in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana, and one of the largest Thanksgiving races in the country, drawing more than 15,000 participants. On November 26, 2026 both distances start at 9:00 a.m.: the Full Gobbler at 4.3 miles and the Mini Gobbler at 2.6 miles. A virtual option exists for anyone outside the area. Entries fund Wheeler Mission's work providing meals, shelter, and care for people experiencing homelessness in central Indiana, with Huntington Bank and Lucas Oil as lead co-sponsors.

A field that size changes how you should run it. Seed yourself honestly at the start, accept a slower first half mile, and plan on running the tangents being difficult until the crowd thins. The Full Gobbler is the better pick if you want a genuine effort; the Mini Gobbler works for walkers, kids, and anyone running with family. Neither needs a formal build, though a month of regular running makes 4.3 miles far more comfortable.
