Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk

Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk is held on Siesta Key beach in Sarasota, Florida, on January 10, 2027. The 5K starts at 8:15 AM and a 1-mile walk follows at 8:20 AM. The event funds scholarships for senior athletes at Riverview High School and honors Andrew Monroe's passion for football and education, and participants are encouraged to bring canned goods for the Mayors Feed the Hungry drive.

Coffee before the race, an honor guard and the national anthem come ahead of the start, and awards are given across several categories, with gift bags for the first 400 registrants plus door prizes and medal presentations afterward. Running on sand asks more of your calves and ankles than pavement does and will slow you down, so if you have a time in mind, run it by effort rather than by pace. The 1-mile walk keeps the morning open to anyone who would rather take it easy or bring family along.
