BTC Vulcan Run

BTC Vulcan Run is held in Homewood, Alabama, on November 7, 2026, with the 10K at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K five minutes later at 8:05 a.m. Organized by the Birmingham Track Club, the race dates back to 1975, when it was known as the Bicentennial Run, and it has grown into one of the better-known road races in the Southeast. Entrants receive a unisex event shirt, and current BTC members get a discount on registration.

The 10K is the headline distance and the harder puzzle: long enough that going out too fast costs you real minutes, short enough that it hurts throughout. Around 25 miles a week with a weekly tempo run is a sensible base. The 5K suits a sharper effort or a first race. The event is also part of the BTC Race Series, which bundles several races each year into one registration.
