About

Freeze For Food is an annual winter run and walk held in Madison, Wisconsin, on March 6, 2027, organized by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Wisconsin - Madison together with Open Doors for Refugees. Two distances are offered, with the 5K (3.1 miles) starting at noon and the 10K (6.2 miles) an hour later at 1:00 p.m. All proceeds go directly to refugee resettlement and food security, the work Open Doors for Refugees does in helping new arrivals settle into the community.

Midday starts are rare and welcome in a Wisconsin winter, since you get the warmest hours of the day. A virtual entry is also available if you want to support the cause from elsewhere. On the running side, the 10K is the more demanding option and rewards a few weeks with a long run of 5 to 6 miles; the 5K works as a walk just as well as a race.
