MadCity Ultras

MadCity Ultras is held in Madison, Wisconsin, on April 10, 2027, with two solo road ultras on the schedule: the 100K (62 miles) at 6:30 a.m. and the 50K (31 miles) at 8:00 a.m. Both are run on a local circuit known as the Arb Loop, in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, and the event also hosts the national 50K championships.

A road ultra on a repeated loop is a very different test from a mountain trail race: the surface is consistent, so pacing discipline and fuelling matter more than technical skill, and the repetition is as much mental as physical. Build with high weekly mileage and long runs on pavement rather than hills, break the race into loops rather than thinking about the total, and set out your drinks and food in advance so each pass through the start area is quick.
