Railway Marathon & Half Marathon - Fultondale is held in Fultondale, Alabama, near Birmingham, on February 6, 2027. The 50K, the marathon (26.2 miles) and the half marathon (13.1 miles) start at 7:45 a.m., the 10K and the 5K at 8 a.m. and a one mile fun run at 8:05 a.m. All of it follows the Five Mile Creek Greenway, a rail trail beginning at Black Creek Park and passing through Fultondale, Gardendale and Brookside. The route is relatively flat and fast, USATF certified, chip timed and a Boston qualifier, with aid stations offering water, sports drink and gels, a six hour cutoff on every event and a custom medal for finishers.

A flat certified rail trail is a strong choice for a first marathon or a qualifying attempt, though the six hour limit means you should be confident of your pace before entering the longer races. The event supports Unless U, which provides education and job training for adults with special needs.
